Analysis of Myth

Janet Muirhead Hill 1942 (Colorado)

According to a myth of man, his is the dominant sex.
God gave him woman as his own, and on her, God placed a hex.

And in the Genesis story man wrote, it was she who made him fall.
Now, it’s his job to keep her in line; she must answer to his call.

When her talents are allowed to show, he sees her mind is bright,
When she stands for what is true, he trembles in his fright.

He cannot admit her brilliant mind; must defeat her honest soul,
So he does the only thing he can to regain complete control.

If he cannot control her thoughts and words, her uterus he’ll claim
And make up laws to keep her down and under his domain.

About this poem

This is a protest poem about the overturning of Roe v Wade and other laws going into effect across the country. It's a protest about the Evangelical movement to legislate religion, which is behind the laws to take away women's right. If we lose the separation of church and state, we've lost our democracy, plain and simple. This is not a protest against MEN in general. I'm protesting the far right wing politicians that are behind these laws.
