Analysis of Watching You Go

You walked out the door
And didn't look back
Just stared at the floor
And shouldered your backpack

I blinked back my tears
But you didn't see
I felt my worst fear
Becoming reality

I thought we were friends
Was I deceived from the start?
Is this how it ends,
With you breaking my heart?

I still think of that day
Numbly watching you go
I miss seeing your face,
But you'll never know.

About this poem

When I was eleven, I had a huge crush on a boy. We became friends, but he never liked me back. On the last day of sixth grade, I was aware that I was going to be homeschooled in the years to follow and I would probably never see this boy again. So this is a poem I wrote a few months after that day, when I was still pining. Now I look back and wonder why it was such a big deal. After all, there are plenty of fish in the sea. It's funny how perspectives change. :)
