Analysis of Hockey and I

Abakhe Ngamlana 2008 (East London)

Hockey is the best sport I ever played
though it is an amateur sport and no one gets paid
a huge problem that is, one that we must fix
and that must happen quick sticks

Playing hockey ranks amongst the best experience of school life,
but if you want to go pro you are considered a fool
maybe its because there's no significant wage
perhaps that's something that needs to change

Watching hockey is perfect entertainment
when boys and girls shoot the ball, proudly making a statement
it sure makes one feel alive
a nod to such amazing drive

Playing hockey is the life I want to be living
hard to do that when it wont contribute to one's living
playing for the love I really wish that were true
perhaps that would be bitting more than one can chew

Millions in earnings I wish that were true
when you don't earn a cent that's insanity
how I wish all sports were the same
where the love was enough hold a dream

Hockey players are getting robbed, its not fair
such an amazing sport that comes with flair
all getting to a point where its illegal
all sports must be equal

About this poem

I took up hockey as a winter sport this year and fell in love with it. It is that love for the sport that inspired this poem
