Analysis of Kinda like Job

David Linsday 1986 (Long beach)

"You're not one of us
You never have been or will be"
That's the last I heard from some family
"You deserve to die, to be alone"
All of this, over the phone.
For a while, I believed them.
I even agreed.
"Who could ever want, much less love me"
I was a failure, jailed twice.
Stuck in the worst rutt,
A victim of my vice.
Running, and stumbling, till I finally fell
No job, no home, starving in my own hell.
I'd been living in fight or flight
Guess which predominantly prevailed
Though my plans had derailed
And I'd habitually failed
I kept my head held up high
For a hint of wind in my sails
And now......
One beach home, a dog, and a wife later,
God's pulled me up from my crater
Set me on a pedestal
Made sure I was full
Had twice as much as when I started
Despite the glares of the cold hearted
I put on my armor
And I've restarted
It's a new day in the lord
And though I'm slow to push on
And often wrong
(I take joy in my infirmities
For when I am weak, then I am strong.)

About this poem

I've been through a lot, and have come out the other side more whole and put together than I've ever been.
