Analysis of Never Been Here Before

Never Been Here Before
Driving down a road, always traveled, view through car windows, seen so many times
Time was in the dead of winter, soon after a storm, flared out of the dark night skies
Came upon that same old gradual turn in the road, I always knew where it went
Suddenly blinded, dark night world, now bright as day, lit up by glittering emerald lights

Driving through a tunnel, walled in on one side, by the grandest, tallest trees, sky bound
A breathtaking canopy, arching over the widening road, enclosing the space overhead
The view now unfamiliar, quietly lost in thought, tunneling visions to the farthest reaches
Against the darkness, dense emerald jungle greens, bushes, trees, painting vibrant pictures
Streaming out of the ground, plants, vines, flowering flowers, shining bright in the night

Would have floated away, except for the seat belt holding me in place, car slowly drifting
Couldn’t see the houses through the trees, couldn’t see the sky, through phantom leaves
Looking at the broadening outside curve of life, lost in dark seas, my reality now in a ditch
Slowing down, for I could not feel the world, a feeling I’ve known before, time stands still

The opposite of déjà vu,  I couldn’t even tell what planet I was on, still I kept on driving
Road forked to a three way stop, I had no idea which way to turn, which was of no concern
Never knowing where I had just been, but never felt lost, car now idling at a dead full stop
Looked like ordinary roads, handy place to make a decision, none of them looked familiar
If only I could change my life, keeping lost times, in a green oasis in the middle of the night
