Analysis of DEAD OF NIGHT

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

In the dead of this awful night
When nothing good would be outside,
Evil stalks the darkened alleyways
And creatures great and small hide.

Shadowy figures reaching out for you
As you are slowly walking along,
Wicked beings are longing for you
Their carnal cravings are oh so strong.

Dreadful desires are filling the night
As unwarily, you're passing nearby,
Unknowing of their lascivious needs
As overhead, winged creatures fly.

Maleficent beings following behind
Do they want to rape you?   Or eat you?
Either event could be possible
So which one of them is the truth?

In the dead of this toxic night
Licentiousness fills the atmosphere,
As lumbering shadows move toward you
Filling your heart with burning fear.

Murderous instincts fill the air
Suggestive breezes lowly mutter,
Words of doom or lustful threats?
As the freezing night air stutters.

"Go home!" the howling wind warns
As you start running homeward,
Trying to outpace the lusty followers
As they start thundering forward.

THE END
