Analysis of Sundance

Claudia Krizay 1956 (Washington DC)

I once believed that the sun was made of clay
Molded in the hands of angels on a dark and dismal day.

The day the sun rose over the mountains
I could see the light, sparkling within thousands of vibrant fountains.

A silent waterfall capturing every ray of light
From every dawning and from the stars at night.

That mystical sun, gives us treasures of which we may have never known
Sometimes copper, at times golden- and even a silver tone-

A gilded net would capture our shadows from way beyond the skies,
Before the sun sets and after the moon rise.

The amazing tones exuded by the sun
Give the gift of illumination to everything and everyone-

I suppose we shall never comprehend-
The mysteries of the universe from its beginning to its very end.

That celestial body that as a child, I believed was made from clay
Shines as a copper penny on the horizon on a very special day.

At sundown I fall asleep vanished inside the world of my dreams,
Lost in fantasy- so vivid and so real it seems.

When I awaken every morning, I feel that all is right,
As I stand atop a mountain peak so thankful for the light.

I know that the sun is a star that at the very end shall burn out,
But endings and beginnings are truly what our lives are all about.

I believe that a new star shall be reborn, and that time could be quite near-
We shall be dancing beneath the light the day a new sun is to appear.
