Analysis of The Sweet Shop

A large jar of sweetie delights hugged snuggly by a ribbon and bow
Hypnotised by an array of colours and so many familiar shapes you know
The image transports me back to an innocent time long past
Clenching tightly the shiny rewards for chores finished way to fast
Front door left open, the mission begins by climbing the wall and standing upon
In the distance the welcoming sight of an open sign and the lights still on
You shout ‘first one there’ triggers a sprint race with your friends in tow
Entering gasping for air, Cola Cubes, Flying saucers and Pink Shrimps on show
Barley Sugars, Parma Violets and Butterscotch too
Bon Bons of all colours, lemon, cherry and strawberry will do
Liquorice laces and Catherine wheels for all to share
Candy Cones and smoochie love-hearts too many to care
Rhubard & Custards piled high in the tall plastic bottles at the back
Fruit Salads, Strawberry Laces and Pear drops scooped up in another attack
Hugging your bulging paper-bag almost full to the brim
Left hand snaked and snatched at sherbet lemons on a whim
Like a magician spreading the silver pieces along the counter top
A quick count, enough left for more or perhaps a panda pop
Yuck Jelly beans no thankyou! but you notice tubs of Jazzies
Shake the bag and create more room to cram in them Snowies
A turn and a backward wave goodbye to the never aging shop keeper
Your hand briskly dives into the bag burrowing and delving deeper
A sour prize makes your face contort and your head shake
Exhausted by a job well down time for the bench by the lake
Shadows appear with the setting sun, the sweet bag now full of holes and rips
A sugar rush, a sickly feeling and sugar covered fingers and lips
Time to go and one by one you all start to follow
A smile appears as you know this all happens again tomorrow
