Analysis of a break in a boulder
a break in a boulder
i know this kid
his eyes so blue
when he speaks of me
i think of you
i yearned his ways, his boyish grins
the aches of yesterday--the needles and pins
and for a while i loathed his life
his upper class, his perfect wife
but soon i heard his painful past
the boy next door could just not last
and there he was
merely a kid in his backyard
no friends to play
no prayers to say
tells all of his gods his feelings today
when all is dark--in the night he's a stray
for when i do, i do, i do
oh, how i'd love to fall in love with you

About this poem
This poem won various international prizes shortly after it was published in 2005. Its unique ability to delve into the human psyche of utter loss, without even trying, leaves a rather heavy lump when the poem concludes.
