Analysis of Not Ashamed
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Be not ashamed to testify,
As a prisoner of the Lord;
Of the Gospel never deny,
Share suffering in one accord.
The power of God who saved us,
Called us to a holy calling;
Not because of the works as thus,
But purpose and grace befalling.
For as given to us in Christ,
Long before that the world began;
For His suffering had been priced,
Who had abolished death in man.
Immorality brought to light,
Through the Gospel of the Savior;
Teaching how to be doing right,
That glory of grace shine favor.
I am a poet and teacher,
I suffer but never ashamed;
Able to be an out-reacher,
Through the poetry I proclaim.
For I know whom I have believed,
And am convinced until that day;
Through the Gospel I have conceived,
As entrusted that I obey.
Follow the pattern of his Word,
In the faith and love as in Christ;
Adhering to what you have heard,
The reasons He was sacrificed.
The Holy Spirit who dwells within,
For guarding the good deposit;
Guiding us away from the sin,
That would block what we inherit.
