Yvonne Gallagher

West Yorks, UK

I was born in Batley Yorkshire 1946, and I have two grown children, Mary and Paul. I also have five lovely grandchildren, Sammuel, Leanne, Joshua, Lewis and Toni. I like watching TV, walking, light gardening and poetry. I have been married for 31 years but I am now separated. I got my poem in "From a Laugh to a Tear" and I also won an Editors Choice Award in 1996 from The International Society of Poets. I have written thirty-two poems so far, and I hope to have my own book one day. My poems come from the heart, they express the way I feel and my dreams.

Lost Love

In the house upon a hill
a big grey cloud is hanging still
The old man sits there all alone
gloomy face, big sad eyes
Really sad he's lost his wife
Thinking of the things he's done
all the time in his life
In his chair he gently sways
going back to happy days
But time goes by, that we know
To pick up pieces is so slow
Fond memories of loved ones
deep in our hearts they always stay
in dreams they are never far away
Many happy hours spent together
now he's on his own forever

Grandad and Grandma

My grandad was a funny one
who went back to his youth.
Now this is a true story
and every word the truth.
Grandad wore a big flat cap
to cover up his head.
And if you hit my brother
he'd send you up to bed.
But grandma she was small and sweet
we often went to tea,
Nestles milk upon our bread
our very special treat.
Alas my grandma left us
and my grandad too.
Now all I have is sweet memories
of two dear folks I knew.
