I am a resident of Lexington, Kentucky, where I have taught business courses in the public school system for 25 years. One of my immediate goals is to earn a doctorate degree in school administration and instruction. I plan to start a second career teaching on the college level and conducting educational research. Writing poetry is my hobby, and another goal is to publish a book of poetry. I am a member of The International Society of Poets and have had several poems accepted for publication by The National Library of Poetry.

Another Birthday

Not so long ago it seems
Each anticipated with pure gleam
Just could not arrive too soon
May, when flowers burst into bloom

School mates gathered around
Dancing to all the latest sounds
Gaiety the statement to make
So center stage I would take
To celebrate another birthday
With peers, presents, and candles on the cake

Now each approaches with a sigh
Reflecting how quickly time goes by
Compelled to check that day in May
For a few more strands of gray

Hoping there's still time to pursue
Pending things meant to do
Thankfulness the emphasis today
So I prefer a different way
To celebrate another birthday
With family, prayer, and no candles on the cake

One Brave Soldier
(for Janice)

Missing in action, killed in battle
Only partial reality to me
So much a part of my heart
You will live forever in my memories

Thoughts of you often crowd my mind
Welcome invasions any old time
Instant replays lessen the pain
In my dreams I hold you again

Many difficult years have come and gone
I control the tears, live the life of one
So, looking at the outside, others advise
You will love again, it just takes time

In silence, I can only reply
Never so completely, never so sublime
I will mostly love one brave soldier
Until the end of time
