Seeds of Sequoia

O MISSISSIPPI, t e a c h A m e r i c a To admire naked dirty children
Paddling a canoe in waters of Colorado
Gathering with tears floating seeds
of Sequoia.
And lo! they are intensely pressing them to their pounding breasts
As a pledge for long bridges
between Continents.

O MISSISSIPPI, t e a c h A m e r i c a
to convert her starlets into grey moons
Predestined for swift flying into
the smiling Sun
From the bottom of the bedeviled Grand Canyon.
And lo! they are begetting a poetic sleepy baby
From a black eagle and white one as a Wife.

O MISSISSIPPI, t e a c h A m e r i c a
to walk or hike around the Elbert Peak
Encompassed by dark-green trees
under a light -blue sky
And with a breeze from above
rippling dark-blue seas.
And lo! there are lots of gently-
rolling waves blowing bonfires
Into one self-immolating fragrant Altar.

O MISSISSIPPI, t e a c h A m e r i c a
To invite varied guests to the Rockies:
Shamans, bonzes, gurus, rabbis, imams and bishops
From all four hoping ends of the swarming planet.
And lo! they are reading - in a hundred thousand dialects-
Sacred scriptures before the five-faced Voided Cloud.

O MISSISSIPPI, t e a c h A m e r i c a
To kiss the morning dew at breaking dawn
Singing with hummingbirds, bumblebees and crested larks
Dancing with weeping trees, squirrels and white-tailed deer.
And lo! from the Big Country's all-embracing protective heart
There are flowing Niagaras of Elixir.

O MISSISSIPPI, t e a c h A m e r i c a
To send her bearded Greek Orthodox Saints
With whirling six-winged seraphs
and many-eyed cherubs
Onto Normandy's simply- drawn -up
radiant graves.
And lo! they are chanting -with a
soothing baritone - dirges
For the best boys knowing the
lightnings of Tabor.

O AMERICA, t e a c h M i s s i s s i p p i
To keep mixing up calm oceans over
the Globe!
