Rose C. Devine

Lynn, Massachusetts

I have been writing poetry and songs since my twenties. I am a house wife who raised seven children. My home is my hobby, and I enjoy making crafts, and spending quiet times reading, and attending church. I have had my poetry published in local newspapers and by the National Library of Poetry. Writing poetry is my way of expressing my innermost feelings of the beauty of life around me.

Once In A Lifetime

It was a warm day and
the sun shone bright.
Many large white clouds
filled the sky.
Cool water splashed around
my tired feet.
As I watched the boats
sail slowly by.
There was a peaceful quietness
all around me.
and I felt like the King
of the hill.
the breathtaking view was
a sight to behold.
How I wished for that
moment time could stand still.

Solitude

How amazingly peaceful it can be
walking along the shore,
silence being broken by a cry of a gull
And the sound of the ocean roar.
Oh to lose one self in that peacefulness,
Never having again to return.
To face once more the problems of life,
Knowing there's no other place I can turn.
It's there by the water, I like to sit,
And quietly reminisce.
And let the outgoing tide wash away
All of my loneliness.

A True Friend To The End

There was that shiny new rocking
chair that Mom and Dad had
bought.
To comfort me when I cried, and
they'd hum to me while they
rocked.
When years went by and I
married, the chair was used for
the very same thing.
I rocked each one of the children
and I remember the songs I
would sing.
Now that I'm very much older,
I'm still rocking in that same
rocking chair.
It's no longer new or shiny, just
and old friend whose memories I
share.
