Phyllis A. Gears is a data control clerk for Rollins Leasing Corporation in Wilmington, Delaware. She says, "it amazes me each time I realize that I created my poem in only 30 minutes." It truly was an inspiration! My ultimate goal is to someday have my poem published in a story book form. Phyllis has had a shorter version of her poetry published by the National Library of Poetry - "Tomorrow's Dream". She also had her poem featured by the National Library's Narrator on The Sound of Poetry. Phyllis resides at 1969 Prospect Road in Wilmington, Delaware. |
'Twas the night After Christmas'Twas the night After Christmas and all through the houseNot a creature was stirring not even a mouse. Santa was sacked out in his favorite chair, With soot on his nose and ash in his hair. As I peeked in the window I saw Mrs. Claus, She pulled off his boots and then came a pause - She bent over gently and kissed his red nose, She covered him slowly, even his toes. There by the fireplace, all snuggled and dry, I smiled as Rudolph let out a great sigh. I crept to the stable through the hard-crusted snow, And peeked at the reindeer asleep in a row. Sleep Dasher and dancer, Prancer and Vixen, Sleep Comet and Cupid, Donder and Blitzen. I walked to the toy shop in less than a minute, No elves, no tools and no toys were found in it. It's hard to imagine all the clamor and noise, While the elves put together all those neat little toys. I remember the look on my little girl's face, As she spotted a doll all dressed up in white lace. And Danny had said (Oh! time and again,) I must have been good, Santa left me a train!" I started for home and my warm cozy bed, Visions of Christmas spun around in my head. I turned and I gasped at the wonderful sight, As a bright shining star lit up the dark night. A voice in the distance, I'll recall (if I can,) Said, "May there be peace on earth and good will to all men!" |
