Octavia B. Hawkins-Richardson

My name is Octavia Hawkins, I have been writing poetry since I was in grade school. I always asked my mother how my poetry sounded when I read it to her and she gave me the ok. I have two children who keep me going on to finish writing my poetry. I work with the elderly in a retirement home. I'm a recreation assistant. I used to work as a nursing assistant. My work is dedicated to my new husband which will be in the year 1999 and my new son and my lovely daughter. Writing my poetry helps me think that when I leave this earth, I will have left a part of me to carry on to young people all over the world, and of how God has blessed me.

LIVING IS LEARNING

Living is learning
to cope with obstacles
that may come your way
Living is learning
to take the good with the bad
Living is learning
How to face reality
Living is Learning
Who and When to give advice
Living is Learning
Not to make the same mistake twice
Living is Learning.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN

I feel your pain
The pain in losing someone so close to us,
The pain in losing someone so dear to us
Knowing that they were just right here with us
I feel your pain.

We never really say good-bye
Just I’ll see you home some day soon.
The pain to us that any time or any day that
Any time or any day that our love ones do not have long
to stay
I feel your pain the pain in knowing this has
Happened to you.  The pain in knowing what more
tears we have gained.

But through all this I feel your pain
