Nancy A. Waters

Mercerville, New Jersey

Nancy has been writing poetry for the last four years. She is a technical assistant with the New Jersey State Treasury Department. Her poetry has been published by The National Library of Poetry, Poetic Voices of America, Treasured Poets of America and several other anthologies. Also, a newsletter written for survivors of sexual abuse has featured her poetry. As a survivor of sexual abuse herself she found writing her poetry a very helpful tool. Nancy plans to publish a collection of her works for she feels that God gave her this gift to share with and possibly to help others.

Day-Care In Heaven

It was time to start the day like they always had
Time to learn and have fun and for that they were glad

As the children arrived they found it was time to play
But their time became short on that particular day

Soon a noise rang out and they all looked to see
Their world coming apart before they could flee

Then God reached down to take the hurt away
His hand held out for them to come play

So they traveled away and left their families behind
But in the comfort of God's arms they knew they were fine

And soon they were playing in the day care above
As God watched over them with everlasting love

He oversees this day-care in a very special way
For the sign on the door says "Angels at Play"

Dedicated to the memory of all the children
that lost their young lives in Oklahoma and to all their families

Come Play Little Girl

You said "Come with me my little girl"
As you reached down and touched my pretty curl

I was so very happy to be with you
But I never really knew what you planned to do

You said I was pretty and that you loved only me
You touched me and held me and wouldn't let me be

I trusted and loved you with all my heart
But little did I know that this was just the start

You took me and hurt me this man that I loved
As I laid very still and stared at the ceiling above

I cried and I hurt but I couldn't figure out
Just what I had done to bring this all about

That was so many years ago
You repeated it often but no one was to know

I changed so much as you took me for yourself
It was as if you placed my life on a shelf

But now I realize all that was done
So like a rebirth my life has just begun.

Seasonal Visitors

First old man winter comes to us wearing a great coat of white
He brings with him ice and cold and blizzards in the night

We are all taken back by his cold storms of snow
And so very soon we are praying for him to go

Next spring dances in with her green coat laced with flowers
And we welcome her by embracing all the scents that she showers

As she begins to get warmer we realize she can not stay
But she reminds us she has been here all of April and May

It is a hot muggy day when Miss Summer finally arrives
And we are sure we want her to stay the rest of our lives

We enjoy the sun and fun but we complain about her humid air
And when she is ready to leave in August we think it is unfair

Now as God's paint brush colors the way in for Mr. Fall
We enjoy the crisp air as we look at the colors in awe

The leaves float away as Mr. Fall tells us he must go
But he is sure that our next visitor will take over the show

So you see God has given us the very best reasons
To welcome our visitors season by season
