Markfield, Leicester, UK

Born 30th September 1932, I am married to George, my lifelong support. We have two fine sons, Michael and David, of whom we are very proud. Daughter-in-law Carole is also very special. Granddaughters Catherine and Cassandra are the jewels in our crown. I am a member of The International Society of Poets and a cancer support group. I have published books of poetry (Reflections...Love and Laughter... My Kind Of World) in aid of Glenfield Breast Care Appeal. My poetry is humorous, reflective, and inspirational, and if writing it can help alleviate just one person's distress then my life is worthwhile.

God's World

God created man
And he gave to him a mind.
Then he gave him freedom,
His place on earth to find.

He gave him hands to do his will,
And with which to walk,
He gave him ears to hear his voice
And lips with which to talk.

He gave him eyes that he might see
The beauty that he had created,
And then he watched with horror
As his world was devastated.

For he has also given man a choice
And when the time came to choose,
Man was only human
And God's gifts he did abuse.

Forgetting all God's goodness
There were cravings in his heart,
And by his self-indulgence
He tore God's world apart.

Solitude

I sat alone on yonder hill,
I'd left such chaos behind.
No sound disturbed my reverie,
And peace overwhelmed my mind.

I gazed in awe at distant spires
The vista a joy to behold.
So much beauty, so much green
That the sunshine had dappled with gold.

And as I surveyed this beauty,
Devoid of trouble and strife.
I knew what a difference the tiniest cog,
Could make in the Wheel of Life.

No longer did I feel alone
For everyone has worth.
And even insignificant me
Was part of this great earth.

With faith anew I clambered down
With just one single thought.
That compared with all blessings
My problems were as nought.
