Florence M. Wells

Wigston, Leicester, UK

I was born 20th August 1934 in Glenfield, Leicester. I am a housewife, mother and grandmother and have one daughter, Julie, three grandchildren, Ian Thomas, Cheryl Yvette, and Vicky Louise. I have been married for almost forty-four years to my husband Ernest, who was my pen-friend whilst serving in the Royal Navy. I have attended art classes at Countesthorpe College and have done many paintings. I also write children's short stories. I am a member of The International Fund of Animal Welfare, and I express my feelings, and patriotism through my poetry.

My Country

This land that I love,
Stands tall and with pride.
Fighting her battles with honour.
They tried to divide us with threats of war,
But united we stand together!
Defending our shores like warriors of old.
Making this land ever stronger.
The pride that I have!
The love that I have!
Is for England! England! Forever!

A Cry In The Wilderness

I hear a cry in the wilderness
A cry I have heard before!
Children crying from lack of food,
and Babies in mothers arms.
I hear a voice in the wilderness,
A voice we know and love.
Fear not my children I hear your cries!
I will not abandon you.
For I am with you all the while,
And beside you I will always be!
Walking down the road of life,
Helping you every step of the way
Fear not dear children, I will provide,
And make you strong again!
To walk down the road of life,
Until the journey's end.
