Jim Carlin

Barnstaple, North Devon

I was born 1940 and have been married for twenty-six years to my wife Marcia. We have three pets: a cat, small dog, and budgie. I am a cleaner in a factory, and my hobby is writing, and I belong to the I.L.O. Poets. The enjoyment I get from writing poems is in the pleasure I can pass on to others. The "If I could..." poem is also dedicated to my wife Marcia.

If I Could

If I could paint your portrait
I would choose such colours bright
or even write a poem
The words would be just right.

If I could climb a mountain
I would scale the highest peak
And shout aloud your praises
For all the world to hear.

If I could cross, the oceans wide
I would sail the seven seas
Facing all the perils
And the challenges to mankind.

All these things, I would do for you
No task would be too great
Just to say , "My Darling, Thank You,
For all you done for me."

My Country Garden

I have a country garden
Which is my pride and joy
And spend so many happy hours
Through out the summer months

The rabbits, squirrels, hedgehogs
To name but just a few
Are to me my close companions
And always at my side

The flower beds are in full bloom
The fruit and veg, are at their best
Birds of flight, all different sizes
Filling the sky with grace and beauty.

And if their is a heaven on earth
There is no place, I would rather be,
Among my loving treasures...
In my country garden of love.
