I was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, majoring in English and speech. I did graduate work in Business Education at the University of California and the University of Chicago. I am a retired teacher and business coordinator. I have written several articles for newspapers and magazines; a one-act play for a magazine; a three-act play presented as a senior class play; and several poems for The National Library of Poetry. I began writing poetry in college. I believe poetry comes from a deep emotion or a love of beauty that needs to be expressed, and the only recourse is with words.

To Children Of The Space Age

Walk lightly
As children of light
Speak softly
As children of space
For the echoes of your life
Fill the universe
With undulations of sound
That could destroy

Go slowly
Do not ravage space
As man has ravaged earth
Listen carefully
And follow Him
Who points the way
And knows your destination

Above all
Remember this is not
A "Brave new world"
To conquer
But a universe so vast
So ancient, so infinite,
That man may never fully
Comprehend now vanquish it.

Unmanifest Destiny

Here nod the tulips,
There the hyacinths,
A pebbled path leads downward
Toward a labyrinth.

Footloose I wander
Through the maze of yews,
Revelling in excitement
That complexity renews.

Each opening is adventure
Each turn a derring-do.
Vistas beckoning onward
Render choices new.

They say life needs direction,
Truly, this makes sense.
But sheer joy in not knowing
Brings ample recompense.

They tell me a blue spruce
Is only blue
If it has iron in it's soul.
