Mary M. Calderone

Las Vegas, Nevada

I started to write poetry in high school, married, had two children, and worked outside the home. In 1975, I started writing poetry again. Writing poetry is my way of expressing my feelings about life, country, nature and humanity. My heart and mind take me on this journey so I can pass it on to others to enjoy. Several of my poems are published in the National Library of Poetry. I am working on having a book of poems published and dedicated to my husband and children. I also do arts and crafts and miniature rooms.

A Friend

I'm so glad you came this way,
It's such a cold and dreary day,
You fill the house with so much cheer,
I'm so happy you are here.

Come sit a spell, I'll make some tea,
And we can chat awhile,
About our lives and families,
And have a laugh or two.

A friend is a special gift,
To know, to love, to cherish,
A friend is supportive,
A friend will not question.

A friend will stand by your side,
Through hard times, joys and sorrow,
Their smile, a squeeze of their hand,
Guides us through our tomorrows.

Let Me Show You

If you fail to smell the flowers,
Or see the sky of heavenly blue,
Let me show you!

If you fail to hear a baby cry,
Or watch the children laugh,
Let me show you!

If you fail to hear a plea for help,
Or give a helping hand,
Let me show you!

If you feel there is not hope,
Or feel people don't care,
Let me show you!

Reach out for me, and I will be
At your side, as always,
To show you the way.

Love

Love to me is
A baby's smile,
A new rose in bloom,
The start of a new day.

A touch of a hand,
A warm embrace,
A mother's face,
A magical place.

A beautiful bride,
A moonlit sky,
Stars twinkling above,
All a sign of love.

Helping the needy,
Consoling the lonely,
Visiting a sick friend,
Making amends.

A moment of silence,
In his presence,
A fervent prayer,
His guiding hand of love.
