My name is Marsha Deborah Khoury, nee Gowrie. I am a Poet. I am a lifetime member of the International Society of Poets and Songcrafters. I have received a number of Merit Awards, a medal from the Academy of Poets, an Editor's Choice Award and a certificate of achievement from Hollywood Jubilee. My belief is that heritage and cultures have a role to play in society. Education, love and understanding can overcome many barriers. Creation within the Arts help us to believe in ourselves and recognition of our works makes us more dedicated in development of our goals and achievements.

The Trumpet Call

I'm Brown, the drab, prostitute,
slut machine, hooker.
But I'm also a browner.
I can brown-nose,
a brownie with brownie points.
I'm the Brown Cow.
Then you called me coloured,
negro, even nigger.
I'm the Tan, mulatto, darkie, dougla,
black, mixed, half-breed.
Finally, you called me white.
To my best advantage,
I'll be the drab to my husband in bed.
The jewel in the Kingdom,
With a brain, mind, and diamond heart.
Most of all, I remember.
I can think, do, and acheive.
When you made me the pink slip,
I'm the red bottle with prosperity ink,
And so I sound the trumpet call for prosperity.

On Easy Street

In times of despair;
Or hopelessness.
I dream of an easy life,
I dream of being on easy street.

If I could make a wish,
Making dreams come true-
Or finding a heritage,
Where I'd be wealthy;
Even a rich husband will do,
I'd forever be riding on easy stree
