I started writing poetry December 1996, my daughter wanted me to try my hand at it. I am 67 years old, married for 50 years and have 8 children, 26 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. I have worked at our local school for 9 years as a para-professional for the Special-Education department.I am a graduate of Lyman High School and have taken Adult Education Courses. I love flower arranging, painting, gardening and photography.I published my first book of poems December 1996 called "Reflections" and plan to do another this Christmas called "Poems About Family, Friends and Others". I have had 50 of my poems published in Anthologies and magazines. |
Dads PancakesMy dad, he was a wonderful cookHe didn't use recipes or go by the book I tried to learn to cook like him But the way mine turned out, it was a sin I asked him once how to make pancakes He said I don't have a recipe but for your sake I'll measure ingredients while chewing the fat Measuring a pinch of this and a handful of that My family was happy to have good food It improved their appetites and their moods I can make pancakes with the best of them The receipt I have I'll never lend But I'll pass it down to my girls And I hope that they will obey my rules To use grandpas pancake recipes And then pass it on to his posterity | The Winds Of WyomingHave you ever heard the windblowing across the plains? Moving and stacking snow in drifts across the lane Have you heard the wind howling like a wolf baying at the moon? It's an eerie and unnerving feeling making up its melodious tune Have you ever watched the trees bending to and fro in the wind? Leaves blow off and scatter around it's mother nature who has sinned Have you heard the windows rattle as the wind blows through the cracks? The draft blows under each of the doors it's coming in from the back The wind is part of our landscape and it's with us most everyday But we love Wyoming wind that's true it's ours and we're here to stay | My MotherMother, mother what shall I do?You taught me things old and new I have a family of my own to raise Learning about kids, I'm truly amazed Your words of wisdom always ring true Sometimes they come to me out of the blue Hard work and religion have played a big part Love and compassion are there in my heart Your guiding hand helped me as a child You were always giving and ever so mild Demanding a lot, but you gave in return Your love of your family was always affirmed You lived to be One Hundred and one Raised a large family, five girls and 3 sons You've taught us well, our families love us We learned it at home and to teach its a must |
