Liselotte Reich

Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada

I was born in Germany in 1920, I came to Canada when I was 42 years-old. Since I've never had schooling for the English language, I'm very proud of what I can create and do with what I know. I had no College or University education and am self - taught. All my life, since about 8 years of age, I've written Poetry. I was published in papers and in recent times by The National Library of Poetry and others. I've won some contests in life, one Editor's Choice Award from the above named. I'm retired and wouldn't mind receiving letters from poetry lovers. Poems are my last love of 3, painting, singing and poetry.

The Manifold Sins

All possible hate that we should never bear
A cry for help that we hear, but won't hear,
The greed to have it all, the obsession to win
For greed's sake not pride, yes, that is a sin.

To see hungry people, knowing they've never enough
And you vain walk on by, you mock and you laugh,
If you've family, old folks and spread yourself thin
We all know it well -- that too is a sin.

To belittle simple folks' work or their strife
To think I need no one, I've got money for life,
If a heart is that cold or despising's the grin
Watch out for God's wrath for all this is sin.

If you steal, embezzle, to have riches on earth
God sees it and knows it, you've really no worth,
Betraying your mate - lust affairs you can win
But your true love will suffer and all is a sin.

If you torture a beast, a child or your spouse
God sees it, remembering you well and your house,
If you kill, have no heart and no mercy within
Can you bring back life? No, it's the ultimate sin.

Comrade Woman

There is a true and loyal comrade
And "Woman" is her name,
She's with her man through thick and thin
Gives all her strength - so he might win
And she's not out for fame.

If there are clouds, if there is storm
She'll try to be his sun,
She'd never think to let him down
And smoothes with gentle hand his frown
Till blues are on the run.

She stands beside him day and night
To reinforce his strength
And helps him always where she can
For after all, he's just a man
Her patience has great length.

Citations she will never have
A crown she shall not wear,
If she gets now and then a rose
This comrade fast forgets all woes
And always will be near.

No Greater Fortune

No fortune in life
Is greater in worth
Than to have still a loved one
Around on this earth.
No possession, no riches
Can ever compete
With a loved one who's dear
With a heart kind and sweet.
