ED.) Western Kentucky Teachers College, B.A. Women's Missionary Union Training School, M.R.E.
I have been a Missionary of West Virginia Baptist Convention, working in smaller churches of the Coal fields, directing Bible Schools, in visitation, and as an encourager. I want my poems to praise Jesus and tell others of His love. I give them to friends and they are used in church bulletins and programs. My poems are published in "Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum" and by "The National Library of Poetry" for which I have received "Editors Choice Awards."

GOD'S TAPESTRY

God weaves His masterpiece, each strand
purchased a great cost.
Saints He gathers from all nations
yellow, black, fair and brown.
They come from crowded cities, and
valleys isolated:
leaders of nations, laborers,
and the world's rejected,
We come as tangled, broken threads,
He makes a work of beauty.

Beauty with added dimension
(limited not by time)
Moses, David, a captive maid,
Magdalene, you and I -
Chosen by the Artist
Selected for time and place.
Each, yielded to the Weaver's hand
"changed from glory to glory"
transformed into His likeness
shall radiate His love.

UNTITLED

God give us days, one by one,
each day significant
a part of His plan for
our contribution to our world
our offering to Him.

God gives life, day by day,
made of small opportunities
(now and then, greater ones)
choices to make
difficulties to overcome.

He makes available to us
His grace, His power,
guidance for each choice
strength for our daily walk
day added to day- our life.

"The Searching Shepherd"

Searching for me before I knew my need,
torn by thorns, the nails, my sin,
He called.
And then I saw my emptiness,
my need, nothing to offer.
I came.

Listen..."Come unto Me,"
"He who comes is never turned away,"
the Savior calls.
"I came to seek and save the lost."
"I am the door." "I am the Way."
He's calling you.

OUR COMMON NEED

The young man dashing toward the goal.
An old man tottering on a cane;
The radiant bride eyes filled with joy,
A frail little grandmother, all alone;
The affluent business man, sure of himself,
and the unemployed - no job in sight;
Leader of men, the genius,, the educator,
The man whose language is yet unwritten,
The busy mother, caring for her family,
An inmate wasting behind locked bars;
The athletic hero of the hour
a patient lingering on hospital bed;
you and I
Have one common need;
JESUS
"Him that cometh to me," He promised,
"I will in no wise cast our."

GOD'S GIFTS

Not a lofty
evergreen
bejeweled with lights,
costly gifts
beneath;
but a tree
stripped of its branches
made into a cross
stark, ugly
makes known God's love
Gifts beneath: joy
peace, forgiveness,
Life eternal.
Come.... Receive.

THE PRICE HE PAID

Because He was tempted in all points as we,
I have an Advocate.
Because He was despised, rejected,
I am loved.
Because His hands were pierced for me,
I place my hand in His.
Because He wore a crown of thorns,
I may wear a crown of righteousness.
Because He drank the bitter cup,
I may taste Heaven's joy.
Because the darkness covered Him.
I can see the "Way"
Because He we falsely tried,
I can know the Truth
Because He died in my place,
I can have Life
Because He suffered for my sin,
I can be forgiven,
Because He came forth from the tomb,
I have immortality.

EASTER

Open your hearts to joy!
Bright tulips and nesting birds
proclaim His praise!

Open your hearts to peace!
Purchased for us by Son of God
on a horrid cross.

Open your hearts to Life Eternal!
An empty tomb, a risen Lord--
the surety.
