LaVerne Negro New Eagle, PA Age: 72 Had stroke 10 years ago Married 51 years to Charles Negro 2 Children,:Son, Bob Daughter, Stacey 2 grandchildren: Chase and Cole Philosophical statement: I have been writing poetry since a teenager stopped when I married and after the stroke. I started writing poetry again. To me poetry is putting words of wisdom into rhyme hoping to lift ones spirits on a down day.

SUMMER IN THE MAKING The air will change from chill to warm, The birds will make their nests Gardens will be planted, then Dad will take a rest. Then starts the never ending battle When the grass begins to grow It's a tiresome job day by day But it still beats shoveling snow.

CARING It takes so little to make one smile A hug or a kiss a pat on the back Makes it all worth while The costs are free. The rewards are great To lift ones spirits before its too late To a shut-in whose activities have come to a sudden end Life takes on new meaning, when one knows he has a friend. So with a smile on your face Give a knock on the door, a extend your hand Give a hug and a kiss, make them happy They're amongst the living once more The best medicine money can't buy It works wonders to the afflicted Who see life passing them by.

GREETING Hello out there It's me again To brighten up your day So gather around and hear what I have to say Be happy, not sad It's better that way Don't let troubles get you down on such a beautiful day No more worries, no more tears Get on with living It's great being here
