Kevin M. Payton

Clarksville, Ohio

My name is Kevin Payton. I was born in Wilmington, Ohio. I am 38 years old. I am the middle child of five, three brothers and one sister. My hobbies are golf, chess, writing poetry and observing people. I have been writing poetry all of my life but only seriously for about three years. My pen name is Kevin M. Payton. I attended high school at Clinton-Massie high in Ohio. I reside in Clarksville, Ohio but my job as a groom of standard-bred race horses for the past twenty years has taken me to at least ten different states and even to Canada. I have had several poems published by The National Library of Poetry and several framed by my Mother Carol Lee Blankenship. "I think the only thing I enjoy more than writing poetry is the feeling I get when I finish a poem and the smile on someones face as they read it......

Idle Thoughts

I hope someday all
will see what I see
The people who fall
In the eyes of the lord
with no one to call
Down on their luck
No friend in the world
And no chance of escape
Why look to the future
When the past was a waste....

Passing The Knowledge

The children in the old days
they had no books to read
to tell them of the dangers
of power, wealth and greed
Children only had the knowledge
Which was passed on down the line
To help them make decisions
and educate their minds
To teach them of a wisdom
Which very few have known
To watch over and protect them
Until the day they're fully grown
To help them find the courage
And beliefs in which to share
with others who are truthful
and those who really care
In hopes that maybe someday
that they may pass along
this knowledge to their children
and teach them right from wrong....

Eagle on the Wind

Friendship's like an Eagle
that floats upon the wind
taking you ever closer
to a place where few have been
A bonding of a lifetime
In which two people share
Their thoughts with one another
and show how much you care
A person you can talk to
Who doesn't make demands
but just sits back and listens
and tries to understand
Someone to share your troubles
and lend a helping hand
To walk right there beside you
Through the deep and drifting sand
So if you ever meet somebody
Who wants to be your friend
Just let the friendship soar
Like an Eagle on the Wind....
