Kenneth E. Alspaugh

Sacramento, California, USA

Ken Alspaugh grew up in Rio Linda, California, wrote his first poem there at age 5; "The Sky Is Blue and I Love You, Happy Mother's Day." He wrote his first serious poem around 1981, "What Gems," about a special lady named Kathy Besso. That poem was so well received by others he began to write in earnest around 1984. He's married and has two fabulous children, Torrell and Kollen. He's currently published in The National Library of Poetry, he's compiling a book and has other poetry projects in the works pending funding and some refinement. The reason for the picture shown is to dedicate this site and the poems in it to God and His Son.

What Gems

The finest gem the world has known
is not the pearl the sea has grown
'tis not the diamond crushed and ground
these aren't the nicest gems around
It's many facets have a grand disguise
they are the sparkles in your eyes

Oh Eagle Teach Me To Fly

Oh Eagle flying so high, you my shining example;
as I ascend ever upwards, seldom losing altitude
faster, gaining momentum, strain my wings to the limit.
I am not full grown yet but as I master the needed skills
I look to you for tip or clue; as I strive I study your success
and know what I can achieve. Smile upon me and whisper
encouragement in my ear. I am next in line to carry on the
task. Oh Eagle teach me to fly.

A Simple Poem God Gave Me

I was pulled from the ranks of satan's den
And I now reside in Salvation's glen
A place where pain and sorrow and fear
Are not felt so much or seen so clear.
God's great Light washes into me
He takes my life, ends the tragedy.
I pledge my heart and all I feel
to pleasing Him and doing His Will.

Where Is My Burning Bush

I have not seen my Goliath no coat of many colors have I received
I have no fish I see to swallow me, where is my burning bush?
I have no walls to march to around, no trumpet to blow,
or sword to raise, Is my call therefore silent?
Does my God scream loudly, to my ignorant unhearing heart?
May it never be!
I know You Light the path, oh Lord,
and ignite the torch to illuminate my way.
Moment by moment You set ablaze a bush,
or raise up a giant challenge in my life.
You'll put me where I can serve You and
Those whose need is greatest; even as Joseph I will be
at the one place that defines God then and there Perfectly!

Please Play On

Gently sliding, briskly striking each key as though caressing
a child.
My heart is that child, my feelings led by each sweeping
movement, each skillfully blended melody and note
swaying with my imagination in far away places,
floating gracefully in others, dancing on wings and toes
laughing to each sound you create
Take me to the land of never never or lead me to paradise
soaring on tunes you play, Please I pray you, do continue
you really do stimulate the black and white
to a life of their own, Please play on.
