Joseph Katz

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Joseph started writing poetry when he was eight years old. He's now a retired men's clothing cutter; a member of ACTWU. He's written ninety songs and many of his poems are in successive anthologies of The National Library of Poetry. At age seventeen, Joseph wrote two epic poems, "Life and Love", and "Ode to the Sea". He's a high school graduate; a language major. After 56 years of married happiness with his beloved wife, Eva, Joseph was widowed. Joseph and Eva have loving and wonderful children and grandchildren. His sublime poetry expresses his strong faith and belief in God's Holy Bible. Joseph loves David's immortal Psalms.

Cosmic Consciousness

We gaze at the wondrous canopy of starry galaxies
And we rejoice at the miraculous beauty of life!
Our hearts, minds, and souls, are attuned to the divine display,
And we realize, the stupendous scope of God's Creation!
Raising our tear-dimmed eyes, to the bright starry skies,
We are constantly amazed at each blazing phenomenon,
That is surely beyond the knowledge of our reason!
We are mystified by this divine galactic display,
Blazing through an eternity of boundless space!
Galactic constellations crowd our mental horizon,
As we assay to philosophize, and we seek solace,
In God's great love for humanity, which inspired His Creation
To be carefully planned and skillfully executed,
With an exactitude and minuteness of detail,
That appalls and awes, the student of Nature!
Our divine Souls are housed in bodies frail,
In comparison to God's created colossal masterpieces,
That endure long past the time the clay-
Of each human being, returns to the original elements,
But our immortal Soul, returns to God; Who gave It!

First Love

Oh, to feel like that young man, the first time in love!
He strides with firm stops, head above the fleecy clouds,
Winged feet on air, soulful eyes visioning the panorama,
Of countless starry galaxies, that swiftly move,
In an eternity of endless space, enshrouding
His mind, with these fantastic phenomena!

Oh, to thrill like that young man, heat aflame,
Throbbing to love's grand symphony, a divine melody
Of life's vivid color and wondrous spectacle,
That fills his every nerve and fiber, and acclaims
The presence of his immortal Soul, with his body,
That guides his every thought, act, and deed!

Oh, to exult as that young man, so happily in love!
His path, the miraculous and wondrous Milky Way!
He scans the heavens, and knows that life's monotone,
Will become an orchestral serenade; the blessed day,
His dream of love, is at last fulfilled.

But only true love can survive life's trials and tribulations,
For a lifetime of togetherness, and sensational revelation!
