Joan Sacre

I was born in Liverpool on 28-3-1920 and was educated at St. Austin's Roman Catholic School - Aigburth - in Liverpool. I have three wonderful children: Sheila, Vincent, and Elaine. I also have five grandchildren: Martyn, Joanne, John, Stuart, and Luke, resulting in seven great-grandchildren whom I adore. I live alone, my husband died many years ago. I belong to The International Society of Poets, and received a certificate from them for one of my poems. I enjoy travelling to see my sister in California, and my many friends in Spain.

To My Children

Someday I know I will have to part
With the family I hold so dear
This message comes right from my heart
To you all when I'm no longer here.

The memories I carry of when you were small,
Have always given me pleasure.
Many time I thanked God for knowing you all,
Your friendship and love is a treasure.

The kindness and help you have given to me,
For all this I truly am grateful.
How lucky I am to have mothered you three,
Sometimes parents are treated quite shameful.

Don't be sad - just be glad for the good times we knew,
And remember I won't be far away
Don't fall out - be good friends, and be happy too
'Til we all meet again, one fine day.

My Favourite House

Oh how did I find you
Dear Can Moner Vell
Your welcome and warmth
I remember so well.

I have waited with patience
To see you once more
And again feel the peace
As I walk through your door.

Was it chance that decreed
We should meet you and I?
Or did fate take a hand?
I shall never know why.

But whatever the answer
There always will be
A place in my heart
Reserved specially for thee.

On Retirement

Gosh! Oh gee! I'm an O.A.P.
Oh what am I going to do,
I have worked all my life,
Through trouble and strife,
And feel just a little bit blue

I just cannot retire,
I still have lots of fire,
And plenty of vigour and vim,
I can dance, and can sing,
Do most everything
But alas never learned to swim.

I can waltz, do the tango,
But not the fandango,
In a quickstep or rumba take part
And 'tho I'm in a spin,
I can say with a grin,
I intend to remain
Young in heart.
