Jess Kelly

Stamford, Texas

I was born in Joshua, Texas on Oct. 2nd, 1942. My family moved around quite a bit as my father chased his dream. I had syphilis at 16, worked my first bull riding at a Rodeo when I was 16 and got busted up in a car wreck when I was 18. I've been writing my so called poetry off and on since my early teens and my education is limited to lacking graduation from High School by 1/2 credit in English. I enjoy Rodeo and country music and my attempts at writing.

Some say I've life to the fullest
and known both good and bad times
Yes, I've lived a full life singing
Whiskey whims, beer ballads
and rodeo rhymes

I drew ole Dirty Dan at earth
and he showered down
He really turned the crank
and he bucked me down

Twisting bulls ain't ever easy
And Dan proved it sound
For he sure turned the crank
and he bucked me down

Danger comes in all sizes
and bulls ain't ever tame
They're all flat out dangerous
and it's all their type game
and when Dan left the ground
He damn sure bucked me down

Danger comes in all sizes
and bulls ain't ever tame
They're all flat out dangerous
and it's all their type game
and when Dan left the ground
He damn sure bucked me down

Oh, the wants and needs of a woman
Its sure like explained
Maybe Roger Miller could
But I damn sure can't

Yes, the wants and needs of a woman
I wonder and I want
Maybe Roger Miller knew
But I for one don't

Oh the mysteries of our worldly life
Are many and that many more
Yes, Roger might have known
But I don't for sure

The scent of a woman messed men's minds
And why I can't explain
Maybe Roger Miller could
But I damn sure can't

Oh the mysteries of our worldly life
Are many that many more
Yes, Roger might have known
But I don't for sure
