Jean L. Barney

Somerville, MA, USA

I've been writing seriously for six years now, and am presently employed as an executive secretary. I've also studied at the Actors Workship in Boston for the past two years, strongly believing that understanding acting and developing my writing go hand in hand. Presently I have six poems released out on cassette with Hilltop Records since 1995. Which has earned me three royalty checks thus far. I have had my poetry published with the National Library of Poetry. I have a completed manuscript which if when published I plan on writing at least two sequels to. I also have an outline for another novel and I'm in the process of finishing my first collection of poetry.

Living Like the Ocean

I would love to live, like the ocean
Always running, so wild and free
With a body, that is so full of emotion
Spread fully out, for everyone to see
Traveling, to all the unknown destinies
To all the places, I would love to see
Always standing proud, much higher than me
Never afraid to be, what ever it wants to be
We can hear it roaring so loud, when it's angry
But a voice that can be soothing, as it speaks deep and raspy
Bringing out all our inner most feelings, we must all agree
Of love and serenity, as we listen to it soaring free.

Come Inside My Mind

Don't be afraid, I'll take your hand, as you come inside my mind
So full of wonder with many adventures still left to find
It's a place that's really kind
Everything about it is real, for I can't hide what's inside
It's everything that's pure and true, right from my heart and soul
With every thought, idea and memory safely stored inside
All that is near and dear, even those fears I've never told
It's all real, there's no where for me to hide, once inside
You will see it all, the joy and sorrow I carry within me
All helping me to continue on to whatever is meant to be
Guiding me through my confusion, giving me light to see
Even the very dark side of me
Don't' be afraid, I'll take your hand, as you come inside my mind
What wonders you will find, some of them will even shine
Making you feel so warm and welcome, no longer afraid of my kind
For I am a human being like you, with feelings just like yours, you'll find
With dreams, hopes, desires and needs, at one time
We really do have so much more in common
You'll begin to see all those things, that are in your own mind
Only then will you really know me, for on the outside , we are all one of a kind

To Those Who Inspire

Why it happens, no one will ever, really understand
How one person, can inspire another, to be all that they can
You have done that for me, my dreams, I will expand
Where ever they may lead, I'll always be, your biggest fan
You have made me see, that my dreams aren't so far away
But even if they don't all come true, I just had to say
Thank you, because you gave me the strength to do it my way
I'll never forget, you, even when I'm old and gray
I hope that someday, I can be like you
To inspire another, to make their dreams come true
To believe in themselves enough, to follow them through
To know I made a difference, in someone else's life like you
If this puts a smile on your face, then I'm right on cue
Because, that's what' I'm really trying to do
For all the hope you have given me, all the way through
I just wanted to give a little something back, from me to you
