Jan has only been writing poetry since 1992. She had corresponded through letters to others since 1964 and was in a stage of her life where she wanted to develop her writing skills. Jan is a Supervisor/ Technician for Motorola. She is the recording secretary for her Daughters of The American Revolution Chapter. She spent 11 years researching her family roots to verify her family line. She and her husband enjoy their church. She has 9 poems that have awards or were published. It is always exciting to Jan to see others enjoy her poetry because she writes only for herself, but not often enough. |
PASSING DOWN OUR HERITAGEMy dear, sweet grandchild I look into your eyesAnd wonder how I could educate you To have a love for our American heritage? We have visited numerous museums So you could learn about our past I read you stories about our nation's heroes So you had a sense of belonging as We enjoyed the holidays, parades and air shows And when you say, tell me about them again? I know my efforts have been successful. |
How Do You Cope?I asked her one dayHow she could be so carefree In our chaotic world She paused thoughtfully and smiled It's quite simple really. I visualize the ocean's tide Somedays it's rough and choppy Other times smooth as glass. Same as life is in reality Why worry about the mishaps Relax and take it One wave at a time. And be confident enough To sail out of the trouble. |
Working On A DreamToo early the alarm clock ringsI stop its incessant noise Before it wakes the others I sit up with a yawn And stretch to get going Up, showered and dressed, I run at dawn each morning Focusing on my dream The cobwebs clearing from my head As I come alive with my workout My body systemically works the routine Allowing my mind to be someplace else Until I focus again Bringing all forces back into control Afterwards, I sit and rest While mentally visualizing my routine Until I get all the moves just right Then it is time to go For another part of my regular day Until tomorrow when it starts All over again. |
