J. Evans Walter

Takoma Park, Maryland

My email ID address, "wejapna@erols.com," exemplifies my autobiography: "wej" are my initials in reverse; "a" stands for "artist," which I have been since birth; "p" is for "poet," whether the best or the worst; "n" stands for "novelist," full of novel ideas; "a" is for "actor," which I've been for many years.
I was born, raised and educated in the City of Baltimore, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Johns Hopkins University.
In the Coat of Arms for my branch of the Walter Family tree, I adopted the motto "LOVE, HONOURE, TRUTH," to be forever free.

To Lucy

There were times when I was happy; there were times when I was sad.
There were times when I was cheerful; there were times when I was glad.
But, the times when I was happy; and, the times when I was glad,
Were the times I spent with you, my love--the best times I ever had!

Alone

It's so dreary to be alone, with no one by your side.
A soul minus a song; a heart lost, for love to abide.
To live in an Ivory Tower, and do it willfully,
is different from a lonely hour, with no one here with me.
Alone in a world all full of lively human beings.
Depressed, unlively, dull--even void of hopeful dreams.
It's so dreary to be alone, in a world of hope and cheer--
While others are singing a song, and are happy throughout the year.

Life's Great Mystery

What is Life's great mystery? "Born to die," say some.
"Eat, drink and be merry, for there is no millennium."
Others seek a higher goal, for the life they love so dear.
"Every man does have a soul, and heaven is very near."
What is Life's great mystery? Why are we born to die?
Why, what makes ships sail on the sea? And what makes airplanes fly?

Indifference

A man, gayly singing a song, was pondering the question of right or wrong.
Shall I all gay and happy be, while others dwell in misery?
What are the cares of others to me, when I, from misery, am free?
Should I be as canny as Lot, or abide by the rules of Camelot?
Should I consider the One who sees, or dwell in the realms of Mephistopheles?
Then, without finishing his song, he turns his back and goes merrily along!

What a Day! What a Day!

Today I almost had a fight, with my one and only companion, Starlight!
As I have done now, for quite some time, I let her out, after feeding her on time.
When Lo and Behold! as I in my living room sat that beautiful, lovely, wonderful cat
Came running into the house, with a mouse in her mouth! What a day! What a day!
No way would she take it back out, no matter how much I pled and shout!
Fortunately, the mouse was demised, leaving me with a task that I despised!
A dead mouse you cannot save. You must take time to put it in a grave.
So, that's what I did that day--What a day! What a day!

Fear Not

Fear not the 'morrow, the 'morrow will always be.
Fear not sorrow, no sorrow abides in me.
Fear not darkness, God is there with thee.
Fear not death, there is Eternity.

Stars

O stars that shine so bright each night, from whence does come thy light?
Are you suns many miles away--too far to bring us day?
Or, are you lanterns in the sky, to guide us on our way?

The Angry Wind

A rap tap-taps on my window; a rap that's harsh, not light.
A rap from the fist of one, who vanishes into the night.

One Star

One star shines through my window, bringing tidings from Heaven above,
Tidings of Life Eternal. Tidings of Joy and Love.

I Hear a Voice

I hear a voice calling me; its melody rings in my ears.
A melody that's enthralling to be, in my memory throughout the years.

On Deafness

Would that I were blind than deaf,
For, there are things that one can hear, but cannot see,
And they are the best things in the world to me:
The words of love, music, God and good poetry.
