Pennville, Indiana

I am the mother of four living children. I have lived here in Indiana most of my life, I have written poetry since I was 13 years-old. I have two books published and I am working on my third one. I also have written several children's short stories, which I would like to have published. I was married for almost 58 years. My husband passed away April 30, 1996, just two days before my 58th anniversary. I have been in Home Extension for 28 years. I was County President of Lawrence Co. in Bedford, Indiana in 1992. I have traveled in different parts of the world including several countries in Europe, to the Holy Land twice and Hawaii. I have two sons and two daughters. I have ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. My husband and I hung wallpaper and painted houses for 37 years. I go to Nazarene Church (three miles from my home). I was a war mother of World War II. I make and sell quilts and afghans. I have also made some for my children and grandchildren. I enjoy writing poetry, a God-given talent.

Give My Heart Wings

Give my heart wings Lord
Let me soar above the teeming crowds
And let me lose myself in the Vastness of your universe.
As I fly may I over come all the bitterness that life can bring.
Forgetting myself as I float in your love.
Let me rest in your presence for awhile, and make me ready to
come back into myself, armed with some of the attributes of you.
Let me lose my selfishness and take
on the humble cloak of humility.
Serving those who need help so desperately,
that all they can do is reach
out a trembling hand to me.
Expecting a kind word, a smile, or help to lift their heavy load.
Make me a blessing to those I meet everyday,
Be they friend or foe, black or white, rich or poor
For we are all one in His sight,
No one is better than the rest.

Little Brown Baby

Little baby in my arms
You are full of grace and charms.
Even the color of your skin
The love you showed my heart you did win.
You rolled those dark brown eyes at me
And I am lost in ecstasy.
Your hair so soft and black as night
You are to me a great delight.
I see the smile that often lingers
You have my heart wrapped in your little fingers
You stole my heart when first we met
I will give you all my love
Which God sends from above.
You are now with God's blessed own
You see the angels around the throne.
Up in heaven you are looking down
Please be smiling and do not frown-
God needed you for His own
Little baby take your rest
For you are one of God's best.
