Grand Cayman Islands

My name is Mrs. Helen Ramirez, a Caymanian by birth. I was born and still reside in Grand Cayman, the largest of three (3) Islands. With Cayman Brac and Little Cayman being the other two islands, Grand Cayman is located 480 miles south of Miami Florida. I work the The Cayman Islands Government as a Purchasing Officer in the Public Works Department. I enjoy writing poems and have been doing this since my early teens. In 1995, one of my poems "America For Me" was published in Washington, DC where I was given an Award of Merit. I love animals and enjoy collecting stamps and old coins. I am married to Costa Rican, Mr. Edwin Ramirez who is tremendously inspiring me in pursuing my dream of becoming a poet.

America For Me

It's fine to see the old World and travel up and down among the
famous Places and cities of renown, to admire the crumbly
castles and the statues of the kings.

But now I think I've had enough of antiquated things, so its
home again America for me.

My heart is turning home again and there I long to be in he
land of youth and freedom beyond the ocean bar where' the air
is full of sunshine and the flag is full of stars.

Oh, London is a man's town there's power in the air, and Paris
is a Woman 'Town with flowers in her hair, and it's sweet to
dream in Venus and it's great to study Rome, but when it comes
to living there's no place like home.

so it's home again, home again, America for me, America for me,
we love our land for what she is and what she used to be.
