Hazel H. Kersch

Lake Havasu City, Arizona

Hazel retired after spending 31 years in "Accounting." She moved to Sonora, CA in 1981. The beauty of the town and surrounding area so impressed her, that she wrote her first poem. She is now living in Lake Havasu City, AZ, where her poetry has been published in the local newspapers, and by The National Library of Poetry, which awarded her four Editors Choice Awards (1993, 1994, 1995, and 1996). She has been published in Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum, Inc. Love of God and Family is her inspiration. "The beauty of nature and all living things are visual poetry."

Pennies

Once pennies could buy,
Your fortune, weight, trinkets,
A sucker or jelly beans.
A child's eyes would shine,
If a penny they'd find.
Penny ante, a card game to play,
An entertaining way,
To spend the day.
Now, in the 90's,
If a penny is found,
More than likely,
It will stay on the ground,
Walked on, trampled into the earth.
Disdain for this copper,
A coin without worth.

Death Valley

Rock formations of every hue,
A rugged canyon, a special view,
From desert floor to jagged peaks,
A panorama of color, so unique.
Volcanic deposits of pink, yellow and red,
With purple, gray and green,
The brush of color can be seen.
Snow capped mountains rising high,
Picturesque against the sky.
This great Mojave desert land.
Of colors, shapes and blowing sand,
Another work of nature's hand.
A place to preserve, for all to see.
A treasure of this great country.

London Bridge of Havasu

Tourists fill our town,
When snow and ice,
Cover the ground,
In other parts of the USA.
Those who can, will get away.
The Mohave desert, is the place,
Where sunshine abounds.
The Colorado River that flows,
And feeds the Lake,
A recreation center in the desert.
Boating, skiing, fishing,
To name but a few,
So many things to do.
The London Bridge of Havasu,
Bring people from over the world.
An engineering feat to view,
The place to see,
A part of our Southwest Country.
