Harumi Taniguchi

Los Angeles, California

Harumi Taniguchi's training in histopathology took place under two famous pathologists, Dr. Paul Klemperer and Dr. Sadao Otani, at Mt. Sinai Hospital, NYC, NY. It enabled her to continue her education in fine art. She has had one woman shows, many group shows and in private collections. She is also a dedicated ballet dancer. Her poems have been published locally and by The National Library of Poets, receiving three Editor's Choice Awards. Living in a house surrounded by nature, designed by Richard Neutra, she draws from nature, abstracts an impressionistic collaboration: painting with words. Poetry is a deep, sensitive and beautiful expression.

FORGOTTEN

Across the plains
Where the sky seems low,
Dust blows in sheets
Across two mounds.

Tattooed, pinpoint
Beads of sand
Whiplash the epithets.

Unclaimed and forgotten
A decade or more,
Two prairie flowers
Unnamed.

Over two mounds
Where the sky seems low,
Dust blows in sheets;
Tumble weeds roll.

THE EYE OF LIGHT

Give me the sun, shaft of light,
Run across the desert sand.
The flare seen, burning fire
Burning deep, cat's agate eyes.

Will the burning, bright light
Give life and hold the eye?
Can the blind see the light?
Will it heal the beastly pain, be free?

Light the torch, shaft of life
Hold it high!
Open wide the agate eye.
Race across the desert sand,
Give each one a burning eye!

VIOLET SCENT

Violets grow beyond the lines,
Blood stained, caked in mud.
Reaching out to touch the violet scent,
The sun's rays touched the hand instead.

It cleansed the hand of rifle powder;
Strong hands once clean,
Bought violets from a vendor.
Yesterday so far away,

Still young but older,
Time broke the silent mind.
Will the mind and hand, sustain or resist?
Will it be the same?

Hands that reached,
To touch the violet's scent,
The sun's rays touched the hand instead.
