Gordon Hall

Listowel, Ontario

At 12 years old, I wrote an essay on family living in the form of a poem. I won first prize but I gave it up, moved east and got a job driving a truck for a living. When my wife died in 1985, I started to write poetry for contests and went to Washington to a poets convention. Since 1981, I have published 9 books and six books of poems with 60 poems per book.

Perfect Shadow

Keep me humble in your shadow
Every time I kneel to pray
Help me find a time to worship
At the start of everyday
Then I know I'll always find him
And I'll never suffer loss
Because He will always be there
In the shadow of the cross.

I would like to be a shadow
And let Jesus be the light
He would guide this lonely shadow
He could guide me through the night
There would be no lonely moments
God will banish every fear
While I'm walking in his shadow
I'll have blessings every year.

Tomorrow

Life is so fragile
It's borrowed at best
It gives you a future
So you can be blest
Life is so fragile
So take time to pray
God holds your tomorrow
He gives you today.

Life is so fragile
We plan and we plan
God holds your tomorrow
It's not left up to man
Your strength for today
Will depend on your zeal
God sends your tomorrow
So you know he's real.

My Reputation

My reputation I build each day
I lay a block each time I pray
It opens doors for me you see
My reputation's really me
I'm front and center every day
When I let Jesus have his way
The mountains that were there by day
His precious blood will melt away.

My reputation I need it most
It follows me from coast to coast
It's in each book of poems I write
It gives me peace both day and night
It helps me lay another block
My reputation is my walk
So I don't have to fear today
My reputation's here to stay.
