I am a seventy year old of Northumbrian stock and my poetry is an expression of feelings and philosophy, covering a wide range of ideas. A small collection of my work is available from The Pentland Press Ltd of Bishop Auckland, County Durham, England under the title of 'A Piece of Blue'.

A Cold Moon

Stand with me,
hold my hand,
watch the moon
spread cold light
on a tired world.
If you are gone
by the next moon
the light will seem colder
on that same tired world
for I shall be alone.

Dead Images

Propeller churned water
disappearing
between two hazy lines -
around and around
pacing
empty decks -
passengers below
drinking,
escaping also
dead images
disappearing
in churning water -
tears of loneliness;
the last
no less painful than the first.

The Voyage

splashing,
echoing
in the anchor shaft;'
the sea and sky,
sad and lonesome.
Silent space,
yearning
to soothe a mind;
once held in love
by gentle hands.

Passion

Weep with her
your tears of love
for ill-spent passion
hangs life upon a
dead man's cross.

Haven

Words and music
are the haven for
the lights of nature.

Deprived of a haven
they fragment and drift
into the unconscious.
