I am a 77 year old widow. After having spent most of my life in Romania and Hungary, I arrived in Canada in 1986, just before the people of Romania have decided to change their life and fight for freedom and democracy. I brought with me memories of World War II, the Holocaust and 40 years of Life under Communist terror.In Toronto I was reunited with my daughter and her family. I accepted my new circumstances and my new life. I began to learn English as a senior - through the Toronto Board of Education. Today, I am very happy that I can express some of my thoughts and feelings in English too.To me, it is a new and wonderful experience. Normally, I write in Hungarian and in Romanian. My poems are read in community centres and writing groups. In addition, my essays and other works are published in the local newspapers and literary magazines. I am a volunteer writer for the biggest Hungarian Jewish weekly newspaper in North America, the "Menora".I am also very active in friendship and literary circles. In 1995, the International Society of Poets honoured me with a Poet of Merit Award and in 1996, I received the Editors' Choice Award from the National Library of Poetry. My work was published in two anthologies.After poetry, my second love is painting. Through bright colours I try to express my love for people, nature and express my hope for life. My paintings were exhibited on the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of WW II, for which I received a "Certificate of Appreciation in Art Work."I strive to reflect my belief that each day is a treasure to enjoy and to offer happiness and comfort to others. The world is filled with so many opportunities but the most important things are Freedom, Love and Friendship. I believe that in life, it is never too late to create something new, something useful, or something truly beautiful!

Existence

Through millennia, on Planet Earth
Humans began to change form and face
They craved the light, they feared the dark night
Confronted, with courage, all struggles and strife!
Their soul accepted the mysterious secrets of life.
Running through unseen distance.
They set out with new ideas on their mind,
Centuries moved swiftly ahead on the road of life
The course could never be changed by time!
Science discovered the way to get to "Space"!
Conquering universe's mysterious ways.
The vision is alive. To fly over rainbows!
To carry our wishes and hopes.
To build a better life.
To save our "Planet", make the desert thrive.
Preserve the green forest, Keep all creatures alive!
If we keep searching the wide open "Sky"!
May we shall find there - answers for life?
"Perhaps - a safe "Place"? - Another human race?

Love

Millions of shimmering stars
Speed across the infinite sky
In the deep darkness of the night
Brings along the message of light.
Love - springing from instinct
Brings - warms feelings - and dreams
Enveloped in faith! With golden rays, magic light
Spread everywhere - reflect hope in our life.
Love is the solace of the world
Which prevents the use of force...
-Love is the essence of life!
It enables us to fight!
Love makes us recognize "Truth and Sacrifice".
It shows the difference between - Heaven and cruel life!
Love sets a smile on our face!
Heals suffering and grand us grace.
-Love makes us understand - each-other ideas!
With its wonderful brightness of light
Love brings always happiness into our life.

Who Knows the Answer?

Years and days run on rule - everywhere..
We try to find steps in time.
To keep the day - to find in our life the right way!
But water and Earth run forever - decades
and one each of way included are our
uncounted days!
We try to fight.
To change the life.
To know the way.
How can we stop
Our last days?
