Gerd Darner has always been inspired by wild nature and animals. Her background includes years in Rhodesia where she absorbed the strange mystique of Africa and in contrast the overwhelming and staggering nature of Telemark, Norway. Her log cabin is situated by a lake in the heart of the mountains. Her poems and paintings reflect her feeling and respect of all animals, tame or wild. She was vice president of S-P-C-A in Norway. Her first book was published in the US under the title: Black Tears. As she is retired, she spends the winter in Spain and the summer in Norway. |
Mountain LoveThe lonely young eagle high in the bluelooked down at the nature where he flew the royal bird saw the snowdrop in the snow he saw the white flower and fell in love he wanted to hold the beauty to his breast he wanted to kiss her and take her to his nest he flew over her every night when the moon was shining softly and bright he whispered I wish I could sing there he flew in the cold early spring. One day his love the snowdrop was gone the hill became green the summer was on God, feared his heart will break and die he called the eagle and asked: Why next spring she will bloom in the mountain snow and the stars will hum for you the snowdrop's love stop your sorrow, fly happy over the mountain stream while you are waiting for your next spring: Dream you wonderful snowdrop in the snow are my pleasure but you young eagle God said: you are my treasure. |
The Zulu-girls PearlsCome with me to Zululandcome and take my hand come and wander with me come let us sit by the akasietree. Now you can see the zulu's dance take a look and a glance look at the pearls she has on she sends them to her boy when he has gone. The pearls are something very rare she sends them for love and care when you send love letter she sends pearls to keep them together. The green pearls mean jealousy the blacks are the sorrows melody the yellows tell about difficulty and hurting the red pearls mean love and flirting. The white pearls stand for their home that the high spirits shall protect their dome the pink for true and ever happiness and that shall always be their address. |
