Frances Landis

Vancouver, Washington

Born in a small Oregon town, I lived in New York State and California with my four sons and two daughters. When my husband died, I moved here to visit my five sisters I hadn't seen for years. I stayed on, became a Mt. trail hiker and Rock Hound and I love it. The beauty and exhilaration inspired me on to photography, painting and writing poetry. My poems are in World Book of Poetry, National Library of Poetry and "Warm Thoughts" which is a Christian Anthology.

MADEMOISELLE

Still so young
Yet, so mature
So much pose
Yet, not quite sure

No false moods
Yet, forever sweet
Conveys her thoughts
somewhat discreet

Eager for life
for what lies ahead
Down her chosen path
Where strange feet tread

Serene and serious,
Yet, a few frills
Make up the charms
Of Mademoiselle.

OUR OWN RED WHITE AND BLUE

Thirteen stripes of red and white
Stars set in azure blue
Mean more to me than fifty states
They stand for love and freedom too

As I gaze upon its beauty
Waving gently in the blue
I cross my heart and make a vow
To my country I'll be true

There majestically upon its pole
For all who pass to see
Is a symbol of our forefathers
Who died to make us free

Many things in this world have changed
And we're glad sometimes they do
But we'll never change what our flag
stands for
Our own RED, WHITE AND BLUE.
