Florence M. Jones

Houston, Texas

When Florence M. Jones was just a pre-schooler, her parents died and she went to live with her aunt. Her aunt taught her to trust God, work hard and believe in herself. She received her BA and her MEd from Prairie View A&M, and did post graduate work at Rice U. and U. Houston. She's been a music educator, a high-school English and typing teacher, an elementary school teacher, and a gifted and talented educator. In addition, Florence Jones has written curriculum and coordinated programming for various schools and has received letters of recognition from President Bill Clinton, Governor Ann Richards and Governor George W. Bush.
Florence has been published by The National Library of Poetry and is a Distinguished Life member of The International Society of Poets. Her goal is to continuously touch lives through writing, speaking and story telling. One of her favorite expressions is "where there's a will, there is a way." So dream, both young and old, and make your dreams come true!

The Ladder of Life

The builder building a building
Seeks support from his ladder.
The ladder doesn't dangle in mid-air.
It needs a system of support.
The support is as important to the
Ladder as the ladder is to the builder.
The climber in life seeks support.
That support is as the ladder is to
The builder building a building.
Yes, the climber in life
Frantically seeks support.
Finding it, he succeeds.
With no support, the discouraged
Climber falls or recedes.
His story could have had a happy ending
If he had found a supporter to
Help him climb the ladder of life.
So, I'll gladly help someone...
Somewhere climb the ladder of life.
May a climber or two depend on you?

Mikeva Mack's Gak

Little Mikeva Mack went to school with gak in her backpack.
"Little Mikeva Mack," said Miss Judy Black.
"Why do you have gak in your backpack?"
I'll tell you the truth, Miss Judy Black.
I have gak to make beautiful pink balls
For my grandmother's pet cat Yackety Yak.

Peace

Peace is letting life's cares
Roll over your head while
Stamping on them with both feet.
It is daily maintaining control
Of the body, mind and soul.
Peace is steering away from snares
And not taking on life's gloomy cares.
It is being like falling snowflakes
Wonderfully resting serenely as you
Lie on your bed when sick or well.

Peace is letting God have complete control
Of troubles, misery and gloom.
Peace never entertains sorrow
But firmly grips hope for each tomorrow.
Sometimes, peace says speak.
Frequently, peace says be silent.
Peace dwells deep within you and me
Where no mortal being can reach.
Peace cries, "Never let me go
For I am yours to forever keep."
