Flora A. Parham

Dayton, Ohio, USA

I've been writing poetry since 1970. I'm a Sales Associate for a large department store in Dayton, Ohio. I'm a single mother of four children. My hobbies include writing songs, stories, and love relationship tests. I invent board games, cook, draw, and play bass guitar. I use poetry to express my inner most feelings about people, love, and life. Poetry is just one avenue I use to express my own perception of the world. I have poetry published in The Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum, in a book called "Treasured Poems of America." I hope to write novels and movies someday.

You Said

You said, I don't want to hurt  you, I just need some time.
But for two weeks or more, you said you were mine.
Was I just dreaming, why didn't I see
that sooner or later, this would come to be.

The doubting, the silence, the acting on edge
were only clues, that soon our love would be dead.
But what about our loving, so passionate and red,
Hot as fire, flames in our bed.

Was I mistaken? I didn't get a clue.
Not from the love, and not from you.
But there were things that brewed outside,
outside our love, that made us die.

You lied.

HOPE

AS I LOOK INTO THE FUTURE,
I HOPE FOR PEACE.
PEACE OF MIND
PEACE OF MAN
PEACE OF THE SPIRIT.
I HOPE FOR MORE LOVE OF GOD,
FOR IN THIS LIES THE HOPE OF MANKIND.
GOD IS LOVE
GOD IS EVERYTHING!
LIFE IS GOD'S GIFT TO MAN.
HOPE IS THE WANTING OF A BETTER FUTURE
OF A RICHER MEANING OF WHAT LOVE IS ALL
ABOUT.
I NEED YOU
YOU NEED ME
OUR NEED FOR EACH OTHER.
CHILDREN NEED HOPE
TO FEEL THERE IS A BETTER LIFE
FOR NOW, AND FOR THEIR FUTURE.
WE NEED HOPE TO SURVIVE
THE BLOWS OF LIFE!

YOU

WHAT AM I TO DO ABOUT YOU?
ONE MAN I FEEL SO MUCH FOR
ONE MAN THAT I ADORE

BUT YOU, THE REAL YOU,
WHAT IS THERE ABOUT YOU?
YOU'RE HANDSOME FOR SURE,
YET WILL THAT ENDURE THE TEST OF TIME?
YOU SAY YOUR LOVE IS PURE.
YET DOES THAT MEAN YOU'RE MINE?

I PACE THE FLOOR, THE HOUSE SOME MORE,
MY HEART I POUR, THE TEARS FOR SURE,
YET ME, YOU SEEM NOT TO SEE.
YET ME, YOU SEEM NOT ABLE TO PLEASE.

WHEN I ASK FOR LESS, NOT MORE.
THAN JUST A FEELING OF BEING LOVED,
BY YOU.
