Eva O. Scott

Lakeland, Florida

I was born and raised in Michigan. My parents lived there until they died in 1994. My only brother and his wife live there also. I have five sons: Aaron, Mike, Rex, Tom and Timothy plus eight grandchildren. I have been writing poetry for 30 years. I have two published books of poetry plus four booklets. I completed a course in writing from Writer's Digest and The Children's Institute of Literature. It is from an appreciative heart that I impart some of my faith in my poetry. I believe in God's ultimate goodness and loving-kindness. My philosophy is to have a positive outlook. Look to Jehovah for strength and direction and seek to be kind. I now live in Lakeland, Florida with my present husband, Delbert Scott. I also am a paid caregiver for a delightful 18 month old boy. I am 68.

God's "Way"

I took a good look
At the good book

To learn what I should know
And which way I should go.

It says "For he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot be loving God whom he has not seen."

What does this mean?
It's not easy as it may seem.

It says we should be meek,
And 'turn the other cheek.'

In essence, "Do not resist he who slaps you":
But humbly let Jah do vengeance for you.

Thus justice will win
Without sin.

It is a peaceful course
One without remorse.

God's word is the "way,"
Let us follow it each day.

Tribute To Dad

Dad, do you remember, your little tag-a-long?
The hand that clung to your hand
And matched your step so long.
Dad, do you remember
The time I sat behind you
Astride ole faithful Nell?

We went to open the pasture gate
Before the rain fell.
You opened the gate and we started home,
The cows came following—
But for us it was too late,
For the thunder roared and the lightning flashed,
As up the lane we dashed.
Isn't it funny—we got all wet,
and I remember it yet.

You took me on your milk route,
And many friends we had.
They often gave us cookies,
For me and my Dad.
I know, at times I got in your hair,
And did things not right;
But always knew you loved me
and prayed about my plight.

You taught me to view with deep respect
The whole of God's creation;
And to see some good, in each generation.
I have a Heavenly Father,
and a King in Jesus too.
I've also been blessed, by the time
I've spent with you.
Dad, do you remember, the good times we had?
You deserve much credit,
and all my love, dear Dad.

The Earth

When I walk on Gods green earth
I contemplate its worth.
How lovingly God planned
And caused to become --- this lovely land.
All kinds of plants and shrubs delight these eyes
---'neath painted skies.
Man has polluted and drained,
---The earth that God ordained.
God will, in time, settle the score,
Until ruiners will ruin no more.
Fear God, and listen to His command
Is the obligation of man.
And then this earth will forever be
Man's blessed home --- eternally.
