Elizabeth B. Arney

Morganton, North Carolina

Elizabeth has enjoyed writing poetry since she was in her teens and says that it is a God-given talent. She and her husband have two grown children and two grandchildren, one of whom writes poetry also. Besides being a homemaker, she works part-time in sales and does volunteer work. Other interests include church, music, reading, and the outdoors. Some of her poems have been published in local newspapers and by The National Library of Poetry. Elizabeth says, "Writing poetry is a natural means for me to reflect on the lovely and good things in life."

Spring Is Here Again

Winter has passed and spring is here again.
Instead of snow and ice, there is soft falling rain.
Warm breezes blowing make the air smell sweet.
Then the sun shines down its mild gentle heat.

Winter has passed and spring is here again.
How pleasant to hear the robin's sweet refrain.
Trees are in blossom, flowers blooming so fair,
And green grass growing on lawns everywhere.

Winter has passed and spring is here again.
Inside games over, children play on the lawn.
Folks are in their garden, impressive work to do.
The days are getting longer and the earth feels new.

If Summer Was A Lady

If summer was a lady
How old would she be?
She might be twenty-six
Or she could be forty-three.
We could never guess her age
For she would look quite young
Yet have a certain mature look
To make us wonder some.
If summer was a lady,
Her age we would not know.
She knows how to hold her age.
Summer is lovely to behold.

Fun With The Sun

What did you think my dear mister sun
The day of the eclipse - did you have fun
How did you feel and what did you say
When you seemed so close to the moon that day?

Did you smile at the moon and wink your eye
And did the moon wink black as it passed you by
Did you say goodbye and I'll see you around
Were you glad once again for your light to shine down?
