Born in Encrucijada, Las Villas Cuba. Family: Two sons, five grandsons, one granddaughter. Education: Colegio Buenavista, Cuba, Bachillerato; Florida Atlantic University, Master of Education; University of Havana Cuba, Doctor en Pedagogía. Publications: Historia de la Música en Cuba, 1958, Havana Cuba. (Now rewriting for publication), Poetry in newspapers and magazines. Taught music in Cuba for 18 years, 18 years teaching in the elementary grades, and as a Real Estate Broker in the Florida Keys, USA.

Why Me?

Lifelong coddled by love, care, and guidance
Protected by angels of merciful power
To keep my walk straight,
My sight high in heaven,
My pride down, in ashes,
In brokenness, joyful,
In solitude, thankful,
And I ask: "Why me, My Lord,
Why me?"

What is Poetry?

Words playfully gathered
To depict the inner-most sensitivity
Of a feeling, of a struggle;
At the light of the Truth.
Words with the rhythm of Life
And the melody of Beauty
Subdued to the harmonic dissonance of Faith
Words in lines that guide...
Words in verses that inspire...
That incomprehensible power everpresent
in the art of Creation:
That is Poetry!

Hoy

Rítmica, lenta, se desliza el alba
Silenciosamente llega, donde, desvelada estoy,
Alumbra mi lecho, desolado y triste
Y el ayer pasado, lo convierte en hoy.

Efímera, vuela, cada hora del día
Afanosamente detrás de ella, sin sentirlo, voy
Marca en mi almanaque un indeleble verso
Que no tiene doble, porque hoy es hoy.

Fúnebre marcha, ennegrecida noche
Inexorablemente me despoja, y ya no soy,
Mortaja mi cuerpo promesa divina:
El afán futuro, no es mi afán de hoy.
