Edyth E. Ashcraft

Dover, Ohio

I am Edyth Ashcraft and have one daughter and two grandchildren. I was married fifty years to an Industrial Property Officer for the United States Department of Defense. I am a High School graduate and graduated from the Newark College of Commerce. My occupation was a filing clerk for the city of Columbus, Ohio. I am a member of the New Philadelphia, Ohio Eastern Star, Tuscarawas County Historical Society, National Association of Retired Federal Employees of Tuscarawas County New Philadelphia, Ohio and American Association of Retired Persons. I began writing poetry during my fifty years of marriage. My first poems "Precious Hand" and "Snowflakes" have been favorites of mine and the public. My husband and I attended the World of Poetry Convention in New York, 1996. I presented my poem "Snowflakes" on television and received a Golden Poetry Award. I received a Golden Poetry Award for "Precious Hand" also. I received a plaque from the International Society of Poets as a lifetime member. School children in the area have used my poem, "Seeds of Kindred", in their school projects. In 1964 I was featured in the local newspaper as first person. I have poems published in the following books:
"Snowflakes"- World Treasury of Golden Poems, John Campbell
"Autumn"-Treasured Poems of America, Sparrowgrass
"Yellow Ribbon" - Poetic Voices of America
"God's Presence" - Outstanding Poetry of 1994
"God's Promise" - National Library of Poetry.
These poems are an expression of my life, as I have lived and have seen it during the past thirty-eight years.

Snowflakes

I saw the snowflakes falling
Softly in the land.
It was an awesome beauty
Touched only by His hand.
I saw the snowflakes falling
Their white enriched the earth
It was a joy and beauty
All inspired by His birth.

Precious Hand

When God reached out and touched me,
So gently with His hand.
It made my troubles seem so small,
Just like a grain of sand.

I thank Thee God for touching me,
And now I understand.
My life has been much brighter,
Since I felt your precious Hand.

MY PRAYER TO GOD

I wish I had wings that I could hover
And fly over the world to observe.
The needs and shortcomings of my Brothers
To help and correct mankind that I serve.

We must realize there must be someone go govern
To lead an exemplary life.
There would be no more bickering, just living
But praying to God with no strife.

That all arms and armies are not needed
But with fruits from our labor to survive
We can put away all hatred created
And await for Christ to arrive.

AUTUMN

I walk through a leafy archway
Which leads to a country lane,
With trees of many colors
All untouched by the rain.

Leaves of red, orange and yellow
Falling slowly all around,
Colors telling of their past
Now lie upon the ground.
